How is your soaps made? What ingredients?
Small batch, hand-crafted cold processed. I use a base recipe of (4) oils (olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, rice bran oil and I add either palm oil, cocoa butter, or shea butter depending on the recipe I created.
Do you use any animal fats?
No, I only use vegetable. (The only animal product is beeswax)
What are “superfatted” soaps, are yours superfatted?
Superfatting a soap means that the amount of lye used is reduced in order to have extra oil that is not saponified into soap. Yes, all of my soaps have been superfatted between 5%-7%. This provides a more luxurious feeling lather.
Are your soaps all-natural?
Most of them are, however some contain fragrance oil and mica.
I can’t find the scent I want, can you make a customized soap with the scent of my choice?
Yes, I will custom craft by the loaf not individual bar.
How long does it take to cure?
4-6 weeks.
Do you make 100% coconut oil soap?
Yes, I will make a custom loaf of 100% coconut oil that has a 20% superfat in order to be skin-safe-the cure time is 10 weeks for 100% coconut oil soap.
Do you make soaps for special occasions?
Yes, I will make specialty soaps for bridal showers, baby showers, gender reveals and for your company (I can label using your logo). Customized soaps will require a lead time of approximately 8 weeks. Contact leslie@americanwomansoaps.com for details.
What is the best way to care for my soap?
Due to the natural ingredients used, rather than harsh chemicals and detergents, it is important to keep your hand-crafted soap dry between uses by using a good, self-draining soap dish and keeping it away from running water.
